| We have now entered our third month of renovation!
The last weekend of September and the first weekend of October were spent preparing the floor in the south end
of the building. Once the floor was re-worked, interior walls for offices quickly went up. And, on the
outside, we saw our dirty sign coming down and revealing a long, lost relic of Chattanooga's financial history! During the weekends of September 27 & 28 and October 4 & 5, the floor in the south half of the building underwent both asbestos glue and tile removal, and the cleaned floor was then sealed against ground moisture. This process was delayed somewhat due to the failure of the "beadblast" machine that thoroughly cleans and preps the floor prior to sealing. It uses thousands of steel balls to "blast" the floor which gives it a thorough cleaning. |
However, the floor abaters obtained another machine in time to finish
the job by Monday morning.![]() |
Looks as good as new.... after 5 layers of sealent were applied, the floor became harder
than concrete! Now, it even looks pretty good too!! Michael's office is seen in the background. ![]() |
Our sign at the top of the building was showing considerable dirt and age.
Here, we see it for the last time as of Friday morning, October 10th.![]() |
It took a little while to undo all the fasteners. Thirty years
is a long time when you're exposed to the elements 24/7/365.![]() |
And what do we have here.... further evidence that the Credit Union was NOT the first financial institution
to occupy this building! We see the words: HAMILTON NATIONAL BANK - Highland Park Branch. Looks like we
have a nice clean-up job coming soon!!![]() |
