Congratulations to our 2022 Scholarship recipient, Abbey Massey!
Abbey’s insightful essay about learning to manage her money, tips for high-school students to do the same, and the influence of EPBECU in helping her gain healthy financial skills has earned her a $1,000.00 scholarship toward her freshman year in college.
“When it comes to teenagers, it can be very common for them to spend their newly acquired paychecks as soon as they receive them, being the first source of income they have ever gotten. However, it is very useful to learn how to save your money. This is most easily and intelligently done by putting money directly into a savings account. Furthermore, I think it is significant for teenagers to know that you can begin building your credit early. You can open a low limit credit card that is used for small purchases, such as getting gas. This way, you can begin with a respectable reputation that will contribute to a good credit score in the future.”
“I am so grateful to the EPB Employees Credit Union for helping me begin my financial experience, their willingness to be of service, and everything they have taught me about managing my money.”
Abbey will graduate from Chattanooga Christian School in May and plans to attend The University of Georgia in the fall.
Congratulations, Abbey!
